The Mummy International Trailer Unwraps Backstory
Okay, now it all makes sense.
There's a new international trailer for Universal's new take on The Mummy, and it offers up a few plot details that were mostly hinted at in the previous looks.
In the opening, we learn more about Tom Cruise's character Nick Morton, who is a former special forces soldier turned reckless treasure hunter, and he doesn't seem to listen to the warnings of Jake Johnson's character. Turns out that he probably should.
Morton is apparently a conduit for the Mummy (Sofia Boutella) to spring from her ancient grave and unleash her otherworldly powers on London. While it seems to grant Morton a little case of immortality, it probably can't turn out well.
Aside from that, most of the new trailer is stuff we've already seen, including a peek at Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, the Nick Fury figure of Univeral's rebooted monster universe. Future movies will reportedly feature Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein.
The Mummy arrives in theaters June 9. It's definitely one of the movies we can't wait to see this year.
