The Last Jedi Will 'Absolutely Address' Rey's Parents

Here's another reason to count down the days until The Last Jedi is released.

It's hardly a secret that one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the next Star Wars film installment regards Rey (Daisy Ridley). She appears to be poised to take the protagonist's spot in The Last Jedi, a status that could very well continue on to Episode IX next year. While the film's teaser trailer revealed a sprinkling of information and first looks, most of us were left more curious than ever to find out who Rey is, and, more specifically, who her parents are.

The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson revealed that the film will definitely touch upon the topic of Rey's parents. Johnson spilled a few details in an interview with Good Morning America. Johnson said, "it's something that is absolutely going to be addressed in the movie."

But will it push into explicit clarification? Will we actually find out Rey's exact mother and father? "It depends on... I can't say!" Johnson began, before cutting himself off. "I was about to say something. You almost got me!"

However, Johnson added that there are more elements of secrecy to The Last Jedi, ones that goes beyond Rey's origins. "There are lots of surprises in this movie," Johnson explained, "and there's lots of twists and turns. And I really want people to experience those when they see the movie for the first time."

Johnson concluded that the mystery behind Rey's parents is definitely one of the film's big "twists and turns." He explained: "How we address that and how you feel about that and what happens with that is one of [the surprises]."

In any case, this seems pretty clear indication that audiences will find out something about Rey's identity in The Last Jedi. While we wait to learn more when the movie hits theaters on December 15, find out why The Last Jedi will blow us all away.
