Mark Gatiss Will Be Back For Game Of Thrones Season 7

Renaissance man Mark Gatiss will be back in Westeros.

The writer and actor for Sherlock and Doctor Who confirmed to Express that he'll reprise his role as Iron Bank of Braavos representative Tycho Nestoris in the upcoming seventh season of Game of Thrones, and possibly the final season, too.

Gatiss has only appeared in two episodes of GoT so far, most recently in "The Dance of Dragons" during season 5.

"I [filmed] in Belfast last year," he said. "I can't tell you anything more obviously, mostly because I don't know anything. It was lovely... I've done four episodes now and there's two more they think. "

Part of the appeal to Gatiss is that he isn't involved in the major behind-the-scenes decisions on Game of Thrones. "What I love about it is that I don't have any stake in it," he said. "I honestly don't know the ins and outs. People ask me this, that and the other, [and] I haven't got a clue... It's a huge saga and I don't know and I rather like that. But I've had a lovely time."

Although he wouldn't reveal any further details, Gatiss did say he jokingly told showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss that he has an idea for the finale. "I made a pitch to be the last one alive because if anyone survives, it's the banker, isn't it? They smiled at me and then plotted my doom."

While it's probably unwise to read too deeply into his comments, Gatiss did imply that there will be a huge loss of life in the events to come. Of course, this is Game of Thrones we're talking about, so that shouldn't be all that shocking. But how will his character come back into the mix? It's possible that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) could align with the Iron Bank to help reclaim the Iron Throne. But we're not sure what kind of interest rates would apply for a loan like that. They've got to be pretty high.

We'll find out more when the seventh and penultimate season of Game of Thrones premieres July 16 on HBO. Take a look at everything we know about the season so far.
