Restaurant To Another World Season 2 - What We Know So Far

No matter who you are or where you hail from, a hefty helping of good food is one of the pinnacles of comfort. Sustenance is universal, and unless you are a robot or some kind of photosynthetic plant creature, your favorite meal can go a long way to keeping you both happy and healthy. Such is the subject matter of "Restaurant to Another World," the anime love child between cooking programs and the ever-popular fantasy isekai genre.

Originally created as a light novel series written by Junpei Inuzuka and illustrated by Katsumi Enami, "Restaurant to Another World" is all about what happens when a world of fantasy creatures comes into contact with the culinary endeavors of the real world. The show surrounds a seemingly average Tokyo restaurant named "Yōshoku no Nekoya," which specializes in Japanese-Western fusion food. What differentiates Nekoya from other restaurants, however, is that every Saturday, a portal linking the fantasy world and the establishment opens, allowing various fantasy characters the opportunity to enjoy some down-home, real-world cooking.

The original light novel received its first anime adaptation from studio Silver Link in 2017 (via Anime News Network ). Since then, there has been no continuation of the series, until now. Delivered fresh and steaming to your door (though, not in 30 minutes or less), "Restaurant to Another World" is finally receiving its second season with studio OLM taking charge of the animation process. Here is what we know so far.

When will Restaurant to Another World Season 2 release?

Fantasy food fans should formulate some festivities, because according to the show's official Twitter page, "Restaurant to Another World" Season 2 is set to premiere in Fall 2021. This is great news for existing fans of the series, though they may be a bit remiss that this "release date" isn't more specific. Still, many will be delighted to know that the show will serve up its second course very soon.

That being said, there is always a burning question that plagues many western anime fans whenever they learn of a new release, "will it ever receive an English dub?" Fortunately, it seems likely that "Restaurant to Another World" Season 2 will feature English language options. According to Anime News Network, the show was part of Funimation's list of simul-dubbed anime, meaning that the company streamed both Japanese and English versions simultaneously on their platform. Assuming Funimation continues this tradition, fans can expect to see "Restaurant to Another World" Season 2 in English once the show becomes internationally available.

Who are the characters in Restaurant to Another World Season 2?

Unlike many other isekai series, "Restaurant to Another World" is formatted much more closely to a "slice of life" than anything else. This means that, rather than following a continuous narrative arc with clear progression, it is more invested in exploring the mundanities of its characters' everyday lives. Even its main characters, Nekoya owner Tenshu (Junichi Suwabe/Christopher Sabat) and demon waitress Aletta (Sumire Uesaka/Jill Harris), find themselves sharing the limelight with a variety of characters that come and go (via Myanimelist).

Other notable characters include Kuro (Saori Ōnishi/Monica Rial), the black dragon girl who also works part-time as a waitress at Nekoyo, the half-elf Alexander (Takahiro Sakurai/Micah Solusod), and many, many more. As with the first season, Season 2 of "Restaurant to Another World" will likely introduce a host of new characters who manage to stumble on the portal to the restaurant. However, OLM has announced neither the names of these characters, nor their respective voice actors.

What is the plot of Restaurant to Another World Season 2?

As previously mentioned, the slice of life format of "Restaurant to Another World" keeps it from having a definite story arc for fans to follow. Each episode focuses on a different character with a different problem that inevitably has something to do with Nekoyo's delicious food. So, unless OLM is looking to really shake things up in Season 2, it's unlikely that this premise will change.

Regardless, OLM is hardly working from a blank slate. The show's light novel source material is ahead of its adaptation in terms of length, with five volumes currently published as of 2019. This means that OLM has no shortage of inspiration to draw from. With more characters, more dishes, and more hilarious gags to be had, fans should keep an ear to the ground when "Restaurant to Another World" Season 2 premieres this fall.
