New Alien: Covenant Trailer Is Absolutely Terrifying

Well, we didn't see this coming. No, literally. The second trailer for Alien: Covenant was set to launch onto a sea of eager film-lovers tomorrow, but a brand-new look at the upcoming movie was just released—and boy, is it totally, spine-tinglingly scary.

Giving us all a sinister warning that sounds like something from a medieval myth, the latest peek at the Ridley Scott refresh features an Earth-like world dripping with mystery, the guys and gals of the Covenant crew dripping with sweat, and some insanely spooky Xenomorphs dripping gross alien drool from their multi-fanged mouths.

Things start of serenely in this second trailer, as we watch the Covenant spaceship make touchdown on a seemingly pristine new planet. All appears well, perfect for human colonization, until crop growth crops up concerns. Spotting wheat growing, one Covenant crew member questions, "What are the odds of finding human vegetation this far from Earth?" Enter the film's big troubles, and cue the trademark aliens while you're at it.

The trailer quickly spirals out into space chaos as many of the Covenant gang are slaughtered by the senseless and unsympathetic Xenomorphs unique to the sci-fi franchise. All in an interstellar mission's work, it seems, as this new look reminds audiences of the film's ominous tagline: "The path to paradise begins in Hell."

Watch it all go down in the video above.

Fans can catch Michael Fassbender as Walter and David, Noomi Rapace as archaeologist Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and Guy Pearce as Weyland Corporation CEO Peter Weyland, roles they've reprised from Prometheus for the new installment. Alongside the Alien alumni are new kids on the block (to the franchise, at least) Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, James Franco, and Danny McBride. Alien: Covenant is set for release on May 19, three months earlier than originally slated by its distributor, 20th Century Fox.

By the looks of this new trailer, Covenant is bound to bring audiences thrills, chills, and alien acid attacks in equal measure once it hits theaters later this year. While we wait to walk down that creepy path to paradise, read up on the Prometheus questions that the film just might answer.
