This Who Played Narshall In How I Met Your Mother's Fake Movie

An optimistic story of true love and enduring friendship, "How I Met Your Mother" ran for nine seasons on CBS, from 2005 until 2014. The series, which stars Josh Radnor as uber-romantic Ted Mosby, famously plays with time as an older, future version of the character recalls various adventures he had as he tells his two children the exceptionally long story of how he met their mother (eventually played in the show by Cristin Milioti).

Although the divisive series finale — in which the Mother dies and Ted ended up with Robin (Cobie Smulders) — may have turned some fans off the long-running sitcom for life, the show gave us many funny and memorable moments before then. From the Slap Bet to "Suit Up!," "How I Met Your Mother" left an indelible mark on pop culture. However, its mark on the world the characters inhabited was arguably much wider.

In the Season 5 episode "The Wedding Bride," it's revealed that Tony (Jason Jones), the man Stella (Sarah Chalke) left Ted for at the end of Season 4, has made a film about their relationship, in which Ted is depicted as the bad guy rather than the man who was left at the altar. The in-universe film was apparently so popular that a second was later made, and at least one other character from the show appears in the movie under a different name: Narshall.

Jon Heder played Narshall in The Wedding Bride Too

In the Season 9 episode "Vesuvius," Robin decides to watch the sequel to "The Wedding Bride," aptly titled "The Wedding Bride Too," instead of spending the day getting ready for her upcoming nuptials to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) eventually join in the fun, though it's a bit unclear what the storyline to the new film actually is. Malin Åkerman's version of Stella and Jason Lewis' Tony don't seem to play a role in the film, but Chris Kattan returns as the arrogant and childlike Jed Mosely, the parody of Ted Mosby. Meanwhile, "The Wedding Bride Too" introduces a version of Marshall, known as Narshall.

The character is played by Jon Heder, the actor who portrayed the titular character in the unforgettable 2004 comedy "Napoleon Dynamite." Heder's Narshall is first seen eating a piece of cake that was meant to be Ted's. Later, he's shown curled up against Jed in a car covered in snow. When Barney later makes fun of the character's name, Ted quickly brings back Barney's own hilarious nickname from Season 2: "Swarley."

"How I Met Your Mother" is currently streaming on Hulu.
