The Masked Singer Season 6 - What We Know So Far

There have been singing reality shows in the past. There have even been lip-syncing shows, but only one series in the history of American television has ever dared to put celebrities in silly costumes and have a panel of judges attempt to guess who they are.

"The Masked Singer" has remained a cultural juggernaut ever since it first burst onto the scene in 2019. Every week, millions of viewers tune in to figure out who's behind the mask, turning to social media to make their guesses known and try to piece all of the enigmatic clues together. As long as celebrities want to sing their hearts out while dressed as a giant lizard, it's safe to say "The Masked Singer" won't go away any time soon.

Deadline reports that Fox has picked up the competition show for a sixth season. What kind of animals can viewers expect the next batch of contestants to dress up as? Keep reading to learn everything known about "The Masked Singer" Season 6 so far.

What's the release date for The Masked Singer Season 6?

If it seems like "The Masked Singer" is always on Fox, that's because it kind of is. Ever since its debut in 2019, the show has released two seasons annually. The first installment airs at the beginning of the year between January and March; meanwhile, the second season comes out in the fall. According to Deadline, Fox will continue that trend for Season 6 with new episodes airing at some point later in 2021.

The report goes on to mention how the show will retain its usual slot of 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights. As you stay tuned for more details regarding a specific date, you can remain in the loop about all things related to "The Masked Singer" by heading over to the show's official Reddit page where fans pore over clues every week determine who's really behind the mask. Perhaps it'll sharpen your skills so that you're ready to guess when the series returns.

What costumes could come up on The Masked Singer Season 6?

There have been many interesting costumes used on "The Masked Singer" over the years, usually fashioned after some kind of animal or food item, and they only get more intricate with each passing season. From a trio of Russian dolls that turned out to be the Hanson brothers to a robotic porcupine that had Tyrese Gibson under the mask, the series earns bonus points for remaining creative after so many episodes.

Fox never reveals what costumes audiences can expect until the trailer for the next season drops. As such, it could be a while until we know with any certainty what kind of colorful creatures will grace the stage later in 2021. However, given the show's proclivity for having some kind of monster every season, it would be a safe bet for that trend to continue going into Season 6. Since Season 5 had Grandpa Monster, perhaps Grandma Monster will finally enter the spotlight next time.

Who will judge The Masked Singer Season 6?

Nothing has come out yet about whether there will be any shake-ups in terms of the judges and host, so for now, it's a safe bet everyone will return to reprise their various roles. On the judging side, that means Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke should come back to continue taking wild stabs in the dark about who's behind the masks. Guest judges also stop by to crack jokes and offer their insight occasionally, with Season 5 bringing on the likes of Joel McHale, Rita Wilson, and Darius Rucker.

There's also the assumption Nick Cannon will return to host, although he did have to take a brief hiatus at the beginning of Season 5. He contracted COVID-19 shortly before filming began, so comedian Niecy Nash had to fill in for a few episodes until Cannon felt better. All of this is liable to change, so keep checking back for any updates if they come up.
