Mark Hamill Has The Perfect Reaction To James Gunn's Latest Guardians Reveal
"Guardians of the Galaxy" fans have been eagerly awaiting any news from James Gunn or the cast about the third film for years now, ever since "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" came out in 2017. While there's still little information about the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" aside from the fact that it's happening, Marvel fans got a nice Christmas gift from the director in 2020, when it was announced that "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special" is coming exclusively to Disney+ in December 2022.
Slowly more information is being revealed about the upcoming holiday special, and one recent tweet from Gunn has fans extremely hyped up — including Mark Hamill, who most people know as Luke Skywalker from "Star Wars." In April 2021, Gun tweeted a special sneak peek, showing the title page of the holiday special's first draft that cheekily attributes the script as written by "James 'Long Elf' Gunn." After seeing this tweet, Hamill had a few very important words to share.
Mark Hamill jokingly references The Star Wars Holiday Special
Retweeting Gunn's sneak peek of the script, Hamill commented, "I have a very bad feeling about this..." Although this might seem like a throwaway comment at first glance, anyone who is well-versed in the "Star Wars" universe will pick up on the significance behind the line that makes it the perfect response.
The "Star Wars" films had a holiday special of their own in 1978, and let's just say that it isn't great. There are a lot of moments that are strange and uncomfortable, and George Lucas reportedly hated the film (via CBR). Disney somewhat redeemed the idea of a "Star Wars" holiday special with the "LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special" released last year, but the original 1978 film will forever be branded in fans' memories.
Because of the fact that "The Star Wars Holiday Special" is notoriously bad and disliked, Hamill quoted one of Skywalker's iconic lines to make a fun joke for fans of both "Star Wars" and "Guardians of the Galaxy," while also sharing a word of warning to Gunn. Holiday specials have a unique history of not being very great, but "Guardians of the Galaxy" fans have faith that Gunn's upcoming project will overcome this. With Hamill's recent tweet, it's clear that he's just as excited.
