The MCU Film Set After The Falcon And The Winter Soldier That You Can Watch Now

Disney+'s latest venture in conjunction with Marvel Studios, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has already made quite the splash on streaming. Riding high on the wave of Marvel Cinematic Universe hype generated by WandaVision, the new show's debut welcomed viewers back into the franchise in grand fashion. In stark contrast to its predecessor, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier includes all of the adrenaline-fueled, action-packed hallmarks the superhero franchise has become synonymous with. At the same time, it has plenty to say about politics, family, and the state of the world following the major developments depicted in the former box office king, 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

In this way, the Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-led program has quite a challenge ahead of it. With the retirement of several key Avengers members and the bulk of the remaining heroes being former sidekicks, the stories told after Endgame will usher in a new era for the MCU. Therefore, one of Marvel Studios' biggest goals in the coming years will be further legitimizing these relatively underdeveloped characters in the eyes of casual fans. They've wasted little time so far, unveiling multiple new additions to the canon post-Endgame to achieve this.

As of this writing, Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the newest MCU release, but it's not the furthest away from Endgame, chronologically speaking. A movie from years past is set much later in the timeline, despite hitting the big screen some time ago.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is an indirect sequel to Falcon and the Winter Soldier

As a diagram from @CultureCrave on Twitter displays, the MCU timeline after Avengers: Endgame is quite spread apart. According to TimeWandaVision takes place three weeks after the fourth Avengers movie, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier six months. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Far From Home is set eight months on, as evidenced by the Twitter chart and a burgeoning fan theory that ties a throwaway line of dialogue in it to WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (via DigitalSpy). The film follows Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) struggle to balance being Spider-Man and a normal kid while on school vacation, all while mourning the loss of his mentor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), and saving the world.

This placement may seem odd, since the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel premiered back in 2019, but it's the way Marvel Studios elected to arrange the chronology nonetheless. In a roundabout way, this makes it a loose continuation of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so for those of you looking to enjoy a good old-fashioned MCU marathon, this is a helpful piece of information. If you choose to binge the entire franchise in chronological order, the Spidey-centric feature is ready to go on various platforms, such as Google Play Movies, Starz, Amazon Prime Video, Blu-Ray, DVD, and more — ripe for viewing after witnessing the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier's six-episode run.
