Zack Snyder's Justice League, more commonly referred to as the Snyder Cut, was released to stream on HBO Max on March 18, 2021. In short, the Snyder Cut is exactly what is promised in its name: director Zack Snyder's version of Justice League. Snyder was the original director of the 2017 film but stepped down from the role near the end of its production following the death of a family member. The version of the film that was ultimately released was therefore the creative vision of Joss Whedon, who was brought on as Snyder's replacement. Following poor critical reception of Whedon's Justice League, fans began to wonder what could have been were Snyder allowed creative control over the final edit of the film. The Snyder cut is exactly that.

Critics were much kinder to Zack Snyder's Justice League upon its release, having mostly positive things to say about his version of the film. Among the strengths noted by critics is that it spends ample time on each of its six central heroes. This is possible in large part due to a runtime that clocks in at just over four hours. Fan responses online following its release on HBO Max praised in particular its portrayal of Wonder Woman, whose central role is among those that are inflated as a result of the film's length.

Zack Snyder's Justice League is the best Wonder Woman movie in years

Whedon's Justice League was released just months after the well-received Wonder Woman. Given Justice League's lackluster critical performance, the film fell well short of her prior standalone adventure in the eyes of fans and critics alike. Sequel Wonder Woman 1984 was subsequently the recipient of considerable backlash. So, reactions like Twitter user RTSnyderCut's description of the Snyder Cut's Wonder Woman as "the truest, most authentic and frankly the BEST live action version of the character there has ever been" position the Snyder Cut as the first proper film to deliver on the promise of Wonder Woman's inaugural onscreen appearance.

Fans found her first scene in the film, in which she rescues a group of children, particularly inspiring. Twitter user LogainTT described it as "the most Wonder Woman thing I've seen in the past couple of years." Users GangsterEnieb and talonwhoo, meanwhile, shared their appreciation for the use of Wonder Woman's theme music throughout the Snyder Cut.

A review by Reddit user gruiydd described Wonder Woman as the source of the film's best action scenes. Twitter user MrConductorFan agreed, arguing that Wonder Woman "carries the action in the film," which they described overall as "easily the best movie that has ever been made about Wonder Woman." Fans can find out for themselves whether or not the Snyder Cut is indeed among the best versions of Wonder Woman ever filmed on HBO Max, where the film is now available to stream for subscribers.
