The Outpost Season 4 - What We Know So Far
The CW's high fantasy series The Outpost wrapped up season 3 with a game-changing finale in December 2020, and fans have been clamoring for more ever since. Fortunately, The CW ordered a fourth season of The Outpost in October 2020 — although, according to Deadline, the next 13 episodes are technically being billed as season 3B. Still, the most important thing is more episodes are on the way, which means viewers shouldn't have to wait too long to see Queen Talon (Jessica Green) in action.
In case you need a recap, The Outpost is set years after Talon's entire village was destroyed. As one of the last remaining Blackbloods (a race of people who possess supernatural powers), Talon embarks on a quest for revenge as soon as she comes of age. Her journey leads her and her best friend Janzo (Anand Desai-Barochia) to a remote outpost at the very edge of their world where a queen is hiding in hopes to unite her people and stop religious fanaticism from spreading throughout the land.
While that's the basic premise of the show, The Outpost has come a long way since season 1. By the end of the season 3 finale, Talon's world is turned upside down when she's crowned queen after the death of her friend Lady Gwynn (Imogen Waterhouse), leaving viewers with plenty of unanswered questions heading into The Outpost season 4.
When will The Outpost season 4 premiere on The CW?
Due to the ongoing global pandemic, much of The CW's 2020-2021 TV schedule was shifted. As it stands, the network has new shows premiering straight through June, which means it may be a while before The Outpost season 4 premieres. As of writing, the exact premiere date for the new season has yet to be announced, although, in the past, the fantasy series has traditionally aired in the summer months.
An exception was made for season 3 due to The CW needing fresh shows to air in the fall. But with the production schedules for most of the network's shows back on track, The Outpost will likely return to being a summer series this year. Since filming on season 4 reportedly has been underway in Serbia since at least October, new episodes should be ready to air soon. Now it's just a matter of The CW announcing when season 4 will premiere.
Who is returning to The Outpost cast for season 4?
Season 3 of The Outpost ended with two shocking deaths: Gwynn and Tobin (Aaron Fontaine). As a result, it seems unlikely that Waterhouse or Fontaine will be returning for season 4. But while they'll both be missed, the series still has a sprawling cast of characters.
As the show's lead, Green is guaranteed to return as Talon. Additionally, Desai-Barochia is not only returning as Janzo, he'll also be an associate producer on season 4 (via Deadline). Other cast members who are expected to return include Izuka Hoyle (Wren), Georgia May Foote (Falista), Jake Stormoen (Garret), and Reece Ritchie (Zed).
So far, no new cast members have been announced, but every season of the show so far has brought new friends and enemies to The Outpost. Fans can likely expect new cast announcements once a premiere date for season 4 is revealed.
What will season 4 of The Outpost be about?
The shocking death of Gwynn is set to shake things up in a major way. As a result of her death, Talon is now the queen, but her claim to the throne is unlikely to go unchallenged. And even if the rest of The Outpost accepts their new leader, Talon has a major job ahead of her. Since she is a Blackblood, she has a much better chance of uniting her people and the humans, but given how deep the divide between them is, nothing about her task will be easy.
And it doesn't help that there's a bigger threat looming on the horizon now that the gods have been awakened. The show has yet to explain who or what the gods are, but the battle between Gwynn and Yavalla triggered an awakening of two statues with their own agendas. Add in the usual romantic entanglements and the dangerous Two (Jelena Stupljanin) still being on the loose, and Talon's quest to form a united kingdom is sure to be a bumpy one.
One thing is certain: The Outpost season 4 is shaping up to be the show's most intense season yet.
