Curt Clendenin Weighs In On The Rumors Of Silver Surfer In Infinity War

Ahead of its release in 2018, there was wide speculation about who might show up in Avengers: Infinity War. One of the most prominent theories suggested that the Silver Surfer was set to appear in the film. Now that it's been almost three years since the movie hit theaters, fans know that the character ultimately didn't appear in the movie's final cut. Even so, Curt Clendenin, the actor who was rumored to have been cast as the Silver Surfer, is offering more detail on his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

When Clendenin was asked if he had been cast as the Silver Surfer during an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Clendenin didn't give a totally straight answer. "Geez. I... I'm not really allowed to say too much about what any of it's... You know, there's a lot," he said. "I don't know if you've seen, like the... the Russo brothers are good at... how do I put it? They're good at leaving Easter eggs too, and they like to have fun with things, you know?"

Clendenin may have filmed scenes for a different movie

The actor also said that, while he may have been called onto the Infinity War set, that wasn't necessarily because he was filming scenes for Infinity War. "It's like, you know how George Lucas treats his sets? You go into an audition for a movie called Blue Mountain," Clendenin explained. "And it turns out, he's like, 'No, surprise, it's Star Wars.' So, I have to leave some secrecy. I don't know how else to explain it, but time, ideally, will tell. There's a lot of stuff that's not shown, and we've heard of all these new Marvel shows that are coming out, and we've heard about, let's say, certain side projects that directors may or may not have been rumored to work on."

Now that WandaVision has had a successful debut on Disney+, Marvel is pivoting at least some of its energy to the small screen. Given Clendenin's references to television, it's possible this is where his Silver Surfer may appear.

Silver Surfer may show up in Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Since Curt Clendenin was so intentionally vague, it's hard to say for sure whether he has any future with the Marvel universe at all. "You never know what kind of interesting nuggets may come to the surface," the actor continued. "We always hear about how pilots for certain TV shows were shot and stuff, and they never saw the light of day. And then years later, someone ends up uploading something to a YouTube channel."

Even after he failed to appear in Infinity War, the rumor persisted that the Silver Surfer may show up in another Marvel property. One prominent theory suggests that, given its galactic nature, the next sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy may be a fitting place for the Silver Surfer to make his first appearance. According to a report from CBR, James Gunn, the film's director, quickly debunked the rumor, saying that he'd never had any discussions with Marvel about using the character in his next movie.
