Alien: Covenant Set Photo Reveals Familiar Setting
In honor of director Ridley Scott's 79th birthday, 20th Century Fox released a new photo (above) from the set of Alien: Covenant. And while it might just seem like a nice gesture, the photo could actually be plenty revealing.
That's Scott in the foreground, but it's the background that's significant here. It clearly shows a reclining Space Jockey pilot from the ships seen in previous installments of the series. As Inverse points out, we first encountered a (dead) Space Jockey in the original Alien, when Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo landed on LV-426.
In the prequel Prometheus, we learned that the Space Jockey was the final Engineer on an entirely different planet called LV-223. The Engineer was killed by the alien birthed by Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace). Shaw promptly left the planet with the android David (Michael Fassbender), and we'll presumably find out their destination in Covenant.
Rapace and Fassbender will reprise their roles in the movie (and Fassbender said he also plays another android, too). The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Billy Crudup. The release date for Alien: Covenant was also recently bumped up from October 2017 to May 19.
Meanwhile, here are a few things that could ruin the movie.
