Ghost In The Shell Teaser Shows Scarlett Johansson In Action
While the jury is still out about whether we'll ever see a Black Widow solo movie, Scarlett Johansson is set to kick off her own action franchise with Ghost in the Shell.
A live-action adaptation of the hugely popular manga series, the flick will feature Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg who leads a special division of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission.
A few months back, Paramount released five cryptic teaser videos that showcased some of the movie's elements. But a new one offers a look at Johansson in the Major's thermoptic bodysuit that allows her to become invisible. It also reveals that the first full trailer will drop this weekend. Check it out above.
Fans of the original know that the Major's suit plays a big part in the storyline, and producers of the upcoming movie told IGN they always knew it would be incorporated into the flick. In the manga series, the suit makes it look like the Major isn't wearing anything at all. But, as we can see from the teaser, producers didn't want that to be the case with Johansson.
"We're not actually trying to pretend she's naked," explained producer Avi Arad. "The suit emulates some of the ideas of the panel lines. When you see it the movie you're not meant to think that that she's naked."
To create the outfit, costume designers worked with Peter Jackson's Weta Digital to build a form-fitting costume for Johansson. They built a silicone suit for her using digital scans of her body, and the entire process took about two months.
Directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), Ghost in the Shell also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano, and Rila Fukushima. The movie arrives in theaters March 31, 2017.
