The Haunting Of Bly Manor Zillow Listing That Will Creep You Out

Shopping around for some new digs? It can feel positively impossible to find the right place. Luckily, real estate website Zillow has an opportunity that's simply to die for, as a posting for the eponymous home in Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor has started turning heads.

Centrally located in scenic "English Countryside," Bly Manor is described in the listing as "currently inhabited by the remaining members of the Wingrave family and their staff, who welcome guests of all ages and backgrounds to stay as long as they'd like." You just don't see that kind of hospitality on display nowadays. "While the Manor has changed familial hands throughout history, markings of its previous residents can be found all over the estate. Former and current residents of the estate report that the home has an airy and expansive quality, particularly in the evenings."

Other choice features include the option, "to view our antique doll collection in the basement, or use our attic to store your most prized possessions," a lake which, "while not for swimming, is perfect for moonlit walks," and the evergreen reminder that the master suite is strictly off limits. Combine those sorts of amenities with the presumably spacious interiors and what sure looks like the original crown molding, and it's frankly shocking that the Bly Manor has apparently been listed for "Eternity." Photos of the estate scan like the pages of a Halloween-themed "I Spy" book. Are those skulls in the paintings on the wall? What's hidden in the shadows? Then, further down the page, subtlety is abandoned in favor of direct terror with the addition of brackish, swampy footprints leading up the stairwell.

Bly Manor welcomes you home

Before making a bid, prospective buyers may be interested to know that Bly Manor, contrary to what the Zillow post would have you believe, isn't a real place. Simply referred to as "Bly," it first appeared in Henry James' 1898 horror novella, "The Turn of the Screw," upon which The Haunting of Bly Manor is based. The world, having apparently caught screw fever, saw another adaptation of the story earlier this year with the January release of the Dreamworks film The Turning. James' original work has been reimagined dozens of times over the years for television, radio, stage, and the big screen.

While the Netflix series was filmed in Vancouver, the specific mansion used for the Bly Manor shots has been kept close to the vest. Until it's revealed, fans of shadowy corridors and old-timey architecture might consider checking out the Killruddery House in County Wicklow, Ireland, which stood in for Bly Manor in The Turning. 1961's The Innocents, another adaptation of "The Turn of the Screw," featured exteriors of the Sheffield Park House in Sussex, while the 2009 BBC miniseries The Screw used the Brympton d'Evercy mansion in Somerset.

Already a critical success, The Haunting of Bly Manor serves as the second season in Netflix's The Haunting anthology series, following 2018's fan favorite The Haunting of Hill House. Featuring familiar faces like Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, it's set to debut on the streaming service on October 9, 2020.
