Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer are reportedly looking to fill the roles of "Max," "Roman," and "Billy." The first two are billed as series regulars, according to THR. Billy is listed as a "potential" regular.
Max is described as a "tough and confident" female between the ages of 12 and 14 with "appearance, behavior, and pursuits" that are more typical of boys in the show's '80s setting. She rides a skateboard instead of a bike, and TVLine points out that the title of the Season 2 premiere appears to be "MadMax."
Billy is a muscular, overconfident 17-year-old who is rumored to have killed someone at his old school. He steals girlfriends, drives a black Camaro, and is "violent" and "unpredictable."
Roman is described as a male or a female of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 38. The character grew up homeless with a drug-addicted mom, and spent most of his or her life seeking vengeance after suffering a huge loss. He or she is an "outsider" who doesn't know how to deal with people.
The second season picks up in 1984, nearly a year after the Season 1 finale. And the casting information also gives us a synopsis of what's to come: "When terrifying supernatural forces once again begin to affect Hawkins, they realize Will's disappearance was only the beginning."
The kids in the cast have their own theories about where the story will go, and the Duffer brothers have revealed some hints.
