If you've been missing the lengthy stage of Johnny Depp's career where he tended to perform under heavy makeup and do funny voices, you're in luck. The actor is returning to this apparently deep well with "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol," a reimagining of Charles Dickens' classic holiday ghost story. But what's the history behind the project? Watch Looper's video above to find out all about Depp's "Ebenezer."

Directed by horror expert Ti West from a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern, the movie features a long list of talented actors, many of whom are arguably just as interesting as Depp himself. We have "Harry Potter" star Rupert Grint as Ebenezer Scrooge's long-suffering underling Bob Cratchit, "Severance" breakout Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Star Wars' Daisy Ridley as Clara, overall acting legend Sir Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, and many other names lending their talents to the film, which is set to premiere on November 13.

Will Ebenezer be Johnny Depp's big comeback moment?

Johnny Depp's Hollywood film presence in recent years has been somewhat meager after his divorce with Amber Heard, with the allegations of abuse and lengthy legal battles that followed. As such, "Ebenezer" has an air of the grand comeback attempt around it, and the style of the movie definitely supports this idea.

Many of Depp's best movies have involved physical transformations, so it's only logical for the actor to choose another role like this as a comeback vehicle. Depp is also known for offbeat films, so it also makes a fair amount of sense to hear that Ti West — best known for the "X" trilogy starring Mia Goth — helms the project. However, nothing in the "Ebenezer" trailers so far indicates that there are massive surprises on the horizon, unless you count the fact that it's Depp spouting Scrooge's classic "Bah, humbug" lines.

For now, "Ebenezer" seems like a wild card when it comes to the actor's career path, and it could well become just another one of Depp's forgotten failures. Its impending debut definitely hasn't stopped Looper from predicting that one of the biggest box office bombs of 2027 will be Depp's follow-up film, the supernatural thriller "Day Drinker." Still, stranger Christmas miracles than a Johnny Depp box office hit have definitely happened, and watching Looper's video above will tell you all there is to know about "Ebenezer" and the circumstances surrounding it.
