What The Avengers Looked Like In Their Marvel Auditions

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers are so ingrained in today's popular culture that even people who aren't active fans of the MCU can recognize the team's core members with ease. However, back then, the performers playing these superheroes were in a very different place, and many have changed considerably over the years. Of course, certain Avengers actors haven't changed all that much over the years. For instance, apart from the famous facial hair, Robert Downey Jr. already looks very similar to Tony Stark, right down to the personal charm. Before landing the role of Captain America, Chris Evans already had the superhero look down, thanks to his stint as the Human Torch in 2005's "Fantastic Four" and its 2007 sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." Still, a fair few of the Avengers actors look noticeably different in their audition footage than they do playing their famous characters.

With "Avengers: Endgame Encore" blowing everyone away at the box office and its three meaningful post-credits scenes adding connective tissue between the movie and the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday," the MCU's premier super team is as busy and timely as it has ever been. It's interesting to remember that when they first burst into the scene, not every actor who'd portray these iconic characters was a megastar. Just look at Tom Holland, for instance. Before his Spider-Man debuted in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," he was known for films like "The Impossible" and "In the Heart of the Sea" — impressive stuff, certainly, but still small potatoes compared to headlining numerous MCU hits like the box office record-breaking "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."
