Why Jessica From 13 Reasons Why Looks So Familiar

13 Reasons Why has grown from an adaptation of a smash-hit young adult novel into a world of its own. The Netflix adaptation has carried the characters who swirled around the death of Hannah Baker into their own personal dramas, taking them through dramatic cover-ups and heartbreaking traumas. As a student at Liberty High and Baker's former best friend, Jessica Davis has been at the center of some of the show's most tense moments. Once the episodes end and viewers are able to relax their shoulders, however, they're left with a nagging question: Where have I seen her before?

Actress Alisha Boe has never had as big a platform as 13 Reasons Why, but that doesn't mean she came from nowhere. Just about any regular television watcher in the back half of this decade has probably come across the 23 year-old Norwegian-American actress. She's made appearances on daytime and primetime television, showing up on Ray Donovan, Days of Our Lives and Casual, among others.

Alisha Boe's early career and bit parts

The young actress has been on television since 2012, turning up in guest roles and one-off spots on shows like Modern Family, NCIS, and CSI: Cyber. Her first big role came on the long-running soap opera Days Of Our Lives. Much as in her later work, she played the friend of a character who died under mysterious circumstances. As Daphne, the college friend of Paige Larson, she appeared on 15 episodes of the daytime show. Her time on Days of Our Lives ended with Larson, who was strangled to death in an episode in 2015.

Elsewhere, she had a three-episode run on CSI: Cyber and appeared on the Hulu original series Casual. She also appeared on the sleazy Showtime drama Ray Donovan for four episodes, and did some voice work for a single episode of the Adult Swim series Robot Chicken.

Alisha Boe's history of teenage drama

Boe has made something of a thing out of playing students in trouble. On Ray Donovan, she played a ne'er-do-well named Janet at a Catholic high school, and her role in Casual was as a similar wayward teen.

"Janet and the character I play on Casual are similar," Boe said in an interview with the Los Angeles Wave. "They like to smoke, drink and party. I was shooting both shows at the same time, which was a lot of fun to do."

Fans of 13 Reasons Why have likely seen her in another teen drama: She appeared in three episodes of MTV's moody Teen WolfDuring the sixth season, she played a high school student whose sister was captured by the villainous Ghost Riders. She eventually was sent to the otherworldly prison that the ghosts controlled, before eventually breaking free.

Of course, the suspense at the heart of 13 Reasons Why is much more grounded in reality. Fans can see how Alisha Boe's Jessica Davis handles graduation in the fourth and final season of Netflix's drama.
