Rob Reiner, Legendary Actor & Director Behind Stand By Me And The Princess Bride, Dead At 78

Rob Reiner — the beloved and acclaimed writer, director, actor, and producer — has passed away at 78 years old alongside his wife, Michele Singer. The two married in 1989 and, on December 14, were both found in their Brentwood home. Singer was 68 years old. TMZ was the first outlet to officially report the news, and the outlet alleged that the couple suffered knife wounds.

Singer was a prolific photographer, and Reiner was a Hollywood legend. The son of Carl Reiner and father of actress Tracy Reiner (the result of his first marriage to actress, producer, and director Penny Marshall) directed several classics, including "The Princess Bride," "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand By Me," "A Few Good Men," "The American President," "Misery," and "When Harry Met Sally..." among others.

As an actor, Reiner appeared in projects like his own films — like "This Is Spinal Tap," "Misery," and "The Story of Us" — and also acted in other favorites, including "Sleepless in Seattle," "The First Wives Club," "The Wolf of Wall Street," and the 2025 sequel "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues," which he also directed.

Reiner and Singer will be sorely missed by Hollywood and the industry at large.
