Steven Universe The Movie Trailer, Sneak Peek, Poster, Release Date Revealed

Do you believe in Steven? You'd better, 'cause his biggest adventure is just around the corner.

A year after the flick was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Warner Bros. Television and Cartoon Network Studios revealed the first trailer for Steven Universe The Movie at this year's edition of the popular entertainment expo.

Directed by Rebecca Sugar, the creator of the much-loved Cartoon Network animated series that the film follows up, Steven Universe The Movie takes place two years after the events of "Change Your Mind," the season 5 finale that saw Steven Universe (voiced by Zach Callison), his best friend Connie Maheswaran (Grace Rolek), and the Crystal Gems crew carry out a plan meant to alter the way the Diamonds see outsiders... and themselves. The last we saw of Steven, he was a marshmallow-shaped boy with a kind heart and a brave spirit. Now, he's older, wiser, just as courageous, and even a little thinner — 16 years old and ready to live somewhat of a normal life as a half-human, half-alien who's fought in his fair share of major cosmic wars.

But this is Steven Universe we're talking about, here. Nothing was ever going to be that simple.

The Steven Universe The Movie trailer starts off by showing Steven hoping to spend some quality time with his friends — including Gems Garnet (Estelle), Amethyst (Michaela Dietz), and Pearl (Deedee Magno Hall) — and to celebrate on Earth after their adversaries got real with their emotions during the season 5 finale. Those dreams are quickly dashed with the arrival of a brand-new villain: a sinister pink Gem who wields a massive, life-draining drill. Steven and the Crystal Gems leap into action to stop their new enemy, knowing that the fate of everyone on Earth rests in their hands.

Also revealed during the SDCC 2019 festivities were an eye-opening behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the making of Steven Universe The Movie and a dazzling poster for the upcoming film, both of which are displayed below.

For all you stalwart Steven Universe enthusiasts, this unloading of news about the series' movie should have you shimmying and shaking in your seat. What will send fans over the edge into the Zone of Extreme Excitement is the fact that Steven Universe The Movie is presented as a musical — featuring collaborations from artists like Estelle and Aimee Mann (who voice Garnet and Opal, respectively), as well as Chance the Rapper, aivi & surasshu, Jeff Liu, Mike Krol, Ted Leo, Gallant, James Fauntleroy, Jeff Ball, Macie Stewart, Julian "Zorsy" Sanchez, and more.

Steven Universe The Movie is set to arrive on the small screen on September 2.
