Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's Second Trailer Brings Two New Weapons To Live Action

A new trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" has dropped, and it seems like the followup to 2021's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" will continue to expand the franchise's universe by introducing some paranormal tech we've never seen on screen before. "Afterlife" increased the Ghostbusters' manpower, and it looks like "Frozen Kingdom" will increase its firepower.

The first new toy appears to be a proton blaster that characters can wear on their wrist. While we've never seen one in live-action, an arm-mounted proton pack was introduced in IDW Publishing's "Ghostbusters" #15 back in 2012. The trailer doesn't reveal who's strapping on the weapon, but it could be Annie Potts' Janine, who will don the Ghostbusters uniform for the first time in "Frozen Empire." Potts told Empire that her character sports some new ghost-fighting equipment — not a traditional proton pack. "Thank God I didn't have to put a pack on because they're murderously heavy, and us OGs are getting on a bit," she said.

At the trailer's end, we see another new piece of gear as the Ecto-1 is now fitted with drone-mounted ghost traps. The car had already been kitted out with a remote-control-car trap in "Afterlife," so a drone feels like a logical next step, especially with a younger, more tech-savvy crew on the team. That's all we see in the preview, but it could be a sign of more to come.

Are the Ghostbusters expanding?

A "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" post-credits scene sees Winston (Ernie Hudson), now a hugely successful businessman, reminiscing with Janine about the good old days and confessing that he'll always consider himself a Ghostbuster. He's been paying the rent on the Ghostbusters' firehouse HQ and Ray's (Dan Aykroyd) book store for years, so it's likely he's also the financier behind the sequel's new gadgets. We've only caught a glimpse of the two so far, but there could be more to come, considering the Ghostbusters have never really had a wealthy benefactor before.

And it seems official now that the team is also growing in numbers. The trailer sees many of the returning cast from "Afterlife" sporting what look like customized uniforms. In the trailer, Paul Rudd's Gary Grooberson even declares, "We're Ghostbusters" (and that bustin' makes him feel good). With Winston bankrolling the operation, the crew could continue growing in numbers and technology. As Winston himself would say, they have the tools, and they have the talent.
