Law And Order: Criminal Intent's Upcoming Spin-Off Finally Reveals Its Cast

When NBC launched "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" in 2001, it swiftly became a series every bit as beloved as the original "Law & Order." And fans have been clamoring for it to get a similar reboot treatment for years now. That "Criminal Intent" revival has yet to materialize, but it seems Canadian network Citytv is set to produce its own version of the beloved procedural in "Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent."

In fact, the series is well into production, and eyeing a 2024 debut. Thanks to a recent Citytv Instagram post, we now know who will play the main crime fighters in the series. Not surprisingly, the Canadian production has indeed tabbed an all-Canadian cast for their version of "Criminal Intent," with screen vets Aden Young, Karen Robinson, Kathleen Munroe, and K.C. Collins headlining the project. While those names may be lesser known to U.S. viewers, their faces should be more than familiar. That's particularly true of Young, who positively wowed in Sundance TV's brilliant, but grossly under-appreciated drama "Rectify."

Robinson should be familiar to viewers too as she's had roles in dozens of notable projects over the years, recently playing Ronnie Lee on "Schitt's Creek," and Vee on "Titans." Munroe and Collins are slightly less known, but the former has appeared on "Supernatural" and the One Chicago franchise. She's also worked on both "Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit" and "Organized Crime." As for the latter, he's delivered standout work in "The Strain," "Spiral," and "Chucky."

There's still hope the original Criminal Intent might make a comeback

"Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent" may not be the revival series fans of the original had hoped for, but it should be fascinating to see what that stellar central cast brings to the Canadian procedural. So much so that fans may be a bit disappointed the show likely won't be easily available to watch in the U.S.

Thankfully, it's still pretty easy to get eyes on the O.G. "Criminal Intent" series if you're inclined to do so. Like most of its "Law & Order" siblings, it remains a regular presence in syndication, with reruns on the air seemingly all hours of the day. Likewise, "Criminal Intent" is a mainstay in the streaming realm, with NBC currently fronting all 10 seasons of the drama on its Peacock platform. For those keeping count, that's a whopping 195 episodes of ripped-from-the-headlines crime drama, with the series wrapping its decade-long run in 2011.

Though the series has now been off the air longer than it was on, fans remain as devoted to "Criminal Intent" as ever, with many indeed holding out hope that Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe may soon return for a revival series. Seems those stars are as interested in a "Criminal Intent' revival as their fans, with D'Onofrio and Erbe confirming their willingness to return in June 2023. Given that their hard-nosed Detectives Bobby Goren and Alex Eames remain two of the best-loved characters in the entire "Law & Order" franchise, it would seem kind of foolish not to take them up on the offer.
