Spider-Man: No Way Home's Deleted Scenes Could Have Fleshed Out Peter's Problems
"Spider-Man: No Way Home" was, arguably, one of the hottest films of 2021. In addition to telling an action-packed story following Tom Holland's Peter Parker, lifelong "Spider-Man" fans saw the return of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and several classic villains.
As well as the movie did, some viewers believed that certain deleted scenes could have been left in, resulting in a greater impact on Peter's character. One such scene takes place in Peter's school after his identity as Spider-Man is revealed. During a gym class, Peter's classmates egg him on to climb the wall. Being Spider-Man and having powers, he is able to climb it with ease. However, he doesn't get praised by his classmates, who most likely used to idolize his superhero persona. Instead, they level insults at him, such as "freak," and Peter is left feeling embarrassed. Fans felt this scene should have been in the final product because it really showcased the problems he faced in public, and put a lot more weight on his later actions.
Peter's life has changed dramatically
This YouTube video, which featured all the deleted parts from "No Way Home," had a few comments from fans about the gym scene. User HECTOR HD wrote, "A lot of these scenes would've really helped add to the first act in playing up just how bad his identity getting revealed was, cus I feel like that's where it lacked the most." Musical History said they were glad to see more of Peter in school. "[I]t's kind of compacted way [too] much in one scene in the movie of just how Peter going to school was suddenly a big deal," they continued.
Though the film did depict how the reveal affected Peter's life at school, it was only a small part of the two-and-half-hour movie. Peter had been there for years, and though he had friends, he wasn't widely known. Suddenly, his secret's out, he and his friends are in the spotlight, and his life has completely changed in the course of a few days. If we had seen more of things like this — rather than it being compacted into one small section of the film — we would definitely understand more of what troubled Peter and eventually pushed him into visiting Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and setting the whole story into motion.
