Jurassic World Dominion's Chris Pratt Wanted Owen To Lose A Hand

"Jurassic World" trilogy star Chris Pratt apparently wanted to go the Luke Skywalker and Ash Williams route for his character, Owen Grady, in 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," but director Colin Trevorrow wasn't having any of it. Luke (Mark Hamill), of course, gets his right hand chopped off in a lightsaber duel with his father, Darth Vader (David Prowse), in "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back," and it is replaced with a bionic one. Ash (Bruce Campbell), on the other hand, cuts off his possessed right hand himself in "Evil Dead II" and replaces it with a chainsaw.

Pratt's reasoning for losing a hand simply came down to the hazards of the job Owen faces as a dinosaur wrangler. "Thank God Colin did this film and had the vision for it because a lesser and more weak [sic] director would probably have succumb [sic] to some of my terrible ideas," he told Syfy. "I was like, 'He's gotten his hand bitten off by now, don't you think?' And they're like, 'Let's not have his hand bit off, Chris. It might be distracting.' And I'm like, 'Just trust me!' Colin is like, 'No, I don't trust you. It's my movie. Back off.'"

Pratt says his ideas stem from the excitement of seeing Jurassic Park as a kid

"Jurassic World Dominion" is unique for Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt in that it incorporates OG "Jurassic Park" stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Oddly enough, Pratt pointed to the first film in the franchise when explaining to SyFy his "Owen loses a hand" concept: "I have plenty of ideas. [N]ot at all great," he confessed. "One or two beautiful ideas among a haystack of awful, 12-year-old, excited to be in the movie that he just saw called Jurassic Park ideas."

While "Dominion" was billed as "the epic conclusion of the Jurassic Era," Colin Trevorrow is threatening to make more "Jurassic World" movies, which conceivably means Pratt could be invited back to the franchise at some point. If so, maybe the director would also consider the actor's wish of seeing more underwater dinosaurs in "Jurassic World" and beyond. And maybe Pratt could finally realize his dream of Owen losing a hand.
