Who Plays Bodil Backer In Faithfully Yours?

The Dutch psychological thriller "Faithfully Yours" was a surprise hit for Netflix last week, hovering among the streaming service's top ten most-viewed titles. It centers mainly on the efforts of Judge Bodil Backer's (Bracha van Doesburgh) attempts to uncover the whereabouts of her missing and presumed murdered friend, Isabel Luijten (Elise Schaap), after the two besties escape the Netherlands and their husbands and head to Belgium for a weekend of extramarital dalliances.

Van Doesburgh told Vogue Netherlands that she has a firm belief in the supernatural and that during the filming of "Faithfully Yours," she came to feel that the beach house used for filming the scenes in Belgium was haunted. "During evening and night shots, a light had to stay on at all times," she said, "but as soon as 'action' was called, it suddenly went out." She also admitted, however, that sometimes her mind can play tricks on her, saying, "I sometimes have a slightly too vivid imagination. When I'm home alone for a night, I've already come up with many horror scenarios in advance."

One of van Doesburgh's television roles parallels her off-screen life

Bracha van Doesburgh has been a Dutch television and movie star for nearly 20 years, getting her start on the 2004 television remake of the 1979 crime film "Grijpstra & De Gier," which is an adaptation of a series of novels by Janwillem van de Wetering. Her first major television role was on the 2006 police procedural "Boks" as Sascha, a character she played in 12 of the show's 13 episodes.

Van Doesburgh played Fatima on "S1ngle" and appeared in the 2010 film "The Dinner Club" before starring as young mother-to-be Eva on the drama "The Neighbors," in the "Claus Family" trilogy as Suzanne, and on the family television drama "Oogapels" as Fabie Schneeman, a food vlogger and single mother of two.

In an interview with Dutch outlet Televizier, van Doesburgh compared her character's path on "Oogapels" with her real life as a mother of three. "I also want to do everything I can for my children," she said. "I know how hard it is to do your family and your job well at the same time. ... Parenting is a complicated job that you want to do perfectly. Then it is reassuring to see that other parents are going through the same or even worse things."
