Supergirl Unveils Season 4 Trailer, Casts April Parker Jones As Series Regular

Supergirl soared at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, when the series' network the CW made several noteworthy reveals.

Firstly, there was the unveiling of the first trailer for Supergirl season 4, displayed up above.

The clip teases how the storyline will progress in the new episodes, with Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) returning to Earth after learning her mother Alura (Erica Durance) was alive in Argo City. Now accepting of her humanity and connected to her past, Kara seems stronger and more resilient than ever — and that's exactly what the citizens of National City will need when Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) and his Children of Liberty roll into town.

Secondly, the CW announced that Jericho and The Last Ship actress April Parker Jones will star on Supergirl season 4 in a series regular role. Per ComicBook.com, Jones is set to bring to life a character named Colonel Haley, described as a "hardline career military woman who lives and dies by the orders of her commanding officers," and whose loyalty to her country "leads her to always act in its best interest, even if that means acting against her own."

Also joining Supergirl for its new season is David Ajala, who will also appear in Syfy's upcoming horror series Nightflyers later this year. Ajala is set to play Manchester Black, a man with a dark past and a dangerously irresistible charm and sense of humor, the kind of guy "who brings a knife to a gunfight and still walks away the winner."

Supergirl season 3 left off on a cliffhanger and revealed a Kara doppelgänger living in Russia. Season 4 is said to be inspired by DC Comics' Red Son storyline, in which Superman lands on a Ukrainian farm rather than in Kansas. Color us intrigued.

Supergirl will be back on the CW for season 4 on October 14.
