Who Did Elijah Wood Play In King Of The Hill?
There's no question that Elijah Wood will always be most well known for his role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's beloved "The Lord of the Rings" franchise, though over the years he's actually established himself as a very prominent voice actor — breathing life into a wide variety of characters across animated television and film.
These roles include the lead character Mumble the penguin in Dreamworks' "Happy Feet," the titular role in Shane Acker's animated cult classic "9," and Wirt in Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed miniseries "Over the Garden Wall." While most fans of Wood may be familiar with his later voice acting work, some fans might be surprised to learn that he also had a small guest role on the adult animated series "King of the Hill" back in 2004; only one year removed from the release of "Return of the King."
Wood starred in the Season 8 episode "Girl, You'll Be a Giant Soon," playing a bespectacled college student named Jason who is recruited by Luanne (Brittany Murphy) to protest the Texas State Fair Grill-Off — not because he is interested in the cause, but because he's interested in Luanne. Much of Jason's time in this episode is spent fighting for Luanne's attention and calling "shame" at people for using charcoal grills, though it's still easy to hear Wood's voice behind this painfully awkward young protestor.
Elijah Wood has voice acted in several adult animated comedies
While this is undoubtedly one of the more minor voice acting roles in Elijah Wood's resume, there's no question that his character is one of the funniest parts of the entire episode — dropping everything he believes in just to come protest with Luanne, and frequently sparring with fellow student Zack (voiced by Dax Shepard) over who cares the most for "Luanne's cause."
Although some fans might think that "King of the Hill" is a bit outside Wood's wheelhouse, he's lent his talents to various popular adult animated television series over the years. A few notable examples include his guest spot on "American Dad;" in which he played another college student named Ethan who becomes enamored with Roger's (Seth MacFarlane) teaching style, and his appearance on "Robot Chicken;" in which he reprised his role as Frodo Baggins in a raunchy parody of "The Lord of the Rings."
Though it might be hard to believe that Frodo Baggins himself made an appearance in the painfully southern town of Arlen, Texas, Wood's guest role on "King of the Hill" is one of the funniest characters of his voice-acting career.
