Yellowjackets Fans Find Taissa's Mirror Scenes Completely Unsettling

Contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" Season 2 Episode 3 — "Digestif"

A lot of messed up stuff happens on "Yellowjackets." Like, a lot. Seriously — this is a show that focuses on teen girls engaging in cannibalism, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. One of the show's most troubled characters — which is saying something — is Taissa, played as a teenager by Jasmin Savoy-Brown and as an adult by Tawny Cypress, and her behavior in the most recent episode has fans shaken up.

In Episode 3 of Season 2, "Digestif," Taissa, who's refusing to let herself sleep because she slips into a dangerous fugue state when she does, notices something strange about her reflection in a bathroom mirror. More specifically, her reflection has a mind of its own, and it's speaking to her. This, obviously, totally freaked out fans, who took to Twitter and Reddit to discuss.

In a thread discussing the episode, Redditor u/senpaimitsuji said, "Why is tai's adult story always scary af? That mirror scene was sooooo unsettling." To make things even creepier, u/NoAphrodisiac pointed out this wasn't even the first time this has happened: "I know, right and not the first one, just the most obvious. Last week I almost missed it but rewound cause I thought I saw something odd. When Tai is going to all lengths to stay awake, there is a scene where she is looking in her dressing table mirror and real her looks down whilst her mirror image stares at her menacingly. Creepy AF."

Taissa's mirror moment really spooked some Yellowjackets fans

Fans over on Twitter agreed that this Taissa moment was completely spooky. @ripleysdaya was succinct: "Taissa is freaking me out. Get her away from mirrors." Meanwhile, @betidoitbetter couldn't quite handle Taissa in general, saying, "Adult Taissa literally spooks the s*** outta me. She's just too unpredictable for me." Some fans can't even physically watch these moments, like @figletfaba: "All right. No spoilers, but these mirror scenes of Taissa's scare the crap out of me. I mean. I have to close my eyes then I have to rewind and force myself to watch so I don't miss anything."

So why is this moment even included, and why is it so important? It all comes down to one thing: Van, played in adulthood by Lauren Ambrose. When Taissa and Van were teens (at which time Van is played by Liv Hewson) stranded in the woods after their plane crash, they struck up a romance and are still uniquely bonded by the time they spent in the wilderness. This all leads to Taissa's mirror double saying, "go to her," pretty clearly referencing her former paramour.

"Yellowjackets" drops new episodes on Showtime's streaming platform on Fridays, which then air on the network on Sunday nights.
