Orange Is The New Black Season 6 Teaser Reveals Premiere Date

Orange Is the New Black is about to take it to the Max.

The first teaser for the acclaimed comedy drama series' impending sixth season rolled out on Tuesday, and it hints at the chaos to come and confirms when the new batch of episodes will be available to stream on Netflix. Orange Is the New Black season 6 will drop on Friday, July 27.

Marking the beginning of a "whole new world," as inmate inmate Piper (Taylor Schilling) puts it, the teaser bids "bye-bye" to Litchfield Penitentiary and promises that what awaits the women of the now-in-shambles prison will be anything but pleasant.

The new season follows after the cliffhanger ending of Orange Is the New Black season 5, which saw the prisoners accepting defeat after their intense standoff with Litchfield's guards and higher-ups. While riot police busted a bunker containing 10 central characters — Black Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Red (Kate Mulgrew), Piper (Schilling), Alex (Laura Prepon), Frieda (Dale Soules), Suzanne (Uzo Aduba), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Gloria (Selenis Leyva), and Blanca (Laura Gomez) — the rest of the inmates were carted away to unidentified locations.

Actress Adrienne C. Moore previously explained that season 6 of Orange will focus on the consequences of season 5's riots and will explore various settings across multiple character-driven storylines.

"Toward the end of season 5, there were some people that were agreeing to stick together, and there were some people that were looking out for themselves," she told The Hollywood Reporter in August of 2017. "We'll see the repercussions of those decisions in this next season." Moore added with a laugh, "Y'all, this next season gonna be lit. Take that however you want. Lit."

Created by Jenji Kohan, who signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Netflix last November, Orange Is the New Black will return on July 27.
