The LEGO Movie 2 Teaser Trailer: Everything Is Even More Awesome
A lifetime has passed since the horrific events of Taco Tuesday. Bricksburg is in disarray. But everything can still be awesome.
Warner Bros. is wasting no time in building hype for its upcoming film The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, releasing the first teaser trailer for the sequel eight months before it launches in theaters.
The footage reunites viewers with Emmet (Chris Pratt) and Lucy a.k.a. Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), who have been adjusting to a new life in an unrecognizable Bricksburg. Five years after the events of the original LEGO Movie, the sequel sees the toy town transformed into a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-style wasteland after the Duplo invaders took control. Lucy has toughened up to face her harsh surroundings, but Emmet seems unfazed and as happy-go-lucky as ever before.
But when the alien leader Sweet Mayhem (Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz) and her extra-terrestrial crew kidnap Bricksburg's Master Builders — including Lucy, Batman (Will Arnett), MetalBeard (Nick Offerman), Benny (Charlie Day), and Princess Unikitty (Alison Brie) — Emmet taps into his tough side and embarks on a mission to go where no toy has gone before in order to save them. On his voyage through the far reaches of the galaxy, he meets Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi (Girls Trip actress Tiffany Haddish) and encounters dozens of strange worlds.
Based on the trailer, it seems The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is aiming to capture the cheeky and irreverent tone of the first flick. And though the clip doesn't reveal a whole lot about the movie's plot, which producers Dan Lin and Chris McKay previously noted will explore gender dynamics and social norms, it does pack in chuckle-worthy jokes, awesome visuals, and some sweet synth-heavy tunes. Check it out above.
Directed by Mike Mitchell (Trolls, Sky High, Shrek Forever After) and Trisha Gum (Tumble Leaf), The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will open on February 8, 2019.
