LeVar Burton Is Satisfied With Star Trek: Picard Being The End For His Character

Contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Picard" Season 3, Part 6 — "The Bounty"

The "Star Trek" franchise has many moments that stunned audiences over the years, and that continues with "Picard's" latest reunion. Old friends Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) and Data (Brent Spiner) are at long last reunited near the end of "Star Trek: Picard's" latest installment. During Season 3, Part 6's "The Bounty," Geordi tells his former captain, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), that he wants to assist him against the Changelings, but that he won't because risking his daughter Sidney's (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) life is not an option.

For the former mainstay of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Burton is thrilled with his character's arc on the Paramount+ series. If this should be the final voyage for Geordi, Burton is more than satisfied with how his storyline is wrapped up.

"We went into this thinking this is the chance to close the circle that we didn't get decades ago, right?" Burton said during an interview with IndieWire. "We didn't know that our last film was going to be our last film ... so this is an unexpected gift."

Many fans will undoubtedly crave more reunions with the crew of "Star Trek: The Next Generation's" Enterprise-D. If "Picard" Season 3 marks the end for LaForge and his friends, however, Burton is happy with his character's swan song.

Burton loves the way Geordi's story ends

Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) teams up with "Star Trek: Picard's" titular star, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), in Season 3, Part 6's "The Bounty." The Changelings and Dr. Moriarty (Daniel Davis) threaten the former crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, and Geordi finds himself at odds with his former captain because he thinks Picard put his daughter (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) in danger. If La Forge meets his end in the final episodes of "Picard," Burton's happy with how his character's storyline concludes.

"The response to this season of 'Picard' has been clamorous in its affirmation that this is pretty special TV," Burton said. "They don't want to let go of this new cast of the next generation of 'The Next Generation' ... I'm absolutely fine with this being the end."

Without giving away any major spoilers, Picard and La Forge share an emotional heart-to-heart in which La Forge refuses to help his former captain because of the imminent threat to his family. It's then Sidney reminds her father that she is not his only familial bond. It's a powerful moment that shows off Burton and Chestnut's unique chemistry and wonderful acting chops. Now, if this proves not to be Burton's swan song as Geordi, the actor is also more than willing to return, claiming it would be "cool" to do so.
