Jerry Seinfeld's Infamous Kesha Encounter Had Fans Spitballing Their Own Seinfeld Bits

Jerry Seinfeld channeled his very own "Crazy" Joe Davola (Peter Crombie) on Kesha Rose Sebert, aka Ke$ha, when the comedian put the kibosh on not one but two hugs the singer-songwriter wanted to share with him back in 2017. The incident, which seemed like a scene plucked right off the pages of a "Seinfeld" script, went down on the red carpet at the David Lynch Foundation's National Night of Laughter and Song. As disappointed as Ke$ha might have been, the co-creator of the "show about nothing" had a very simple reason for not embracing the musician.

"When you get to be my age and you've done a couple things, you have your own reality," Seinfeld addressed the issue in an interview with "Extra TV." "In my reality, I don't hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere."

"Yeah, all these little social things are tricky," Seinfeld said in the same interview. "But the second you meet another person — hugging. I'm sure I would have liked her, but I need to know, 'Who are you?'" The comedian wasn't the only one who seemed to treat the encounter like an episode right out of the famous sitcom. Suddenly, dozens of Reddit users fancied themselves "Seinfeld" writers, and they've each put their own unique spin on the drama of when Jerry met Ke$ha.

'Who does that?'

Seinfeld didn't have a clue who singing sensation Ke$ha was when she approached him on the red carpet in 2017. And many in the Reddit community spitballed their own Jerry meets Ke$ha bits afterward. "NO HUG FOR YOU," u/dmou wrote a bit in reference to the infamous Season 7 episode of "Seinfeld" titled "The Soup Nazi." "Good thing she didn't try to kiss him on the cheek," u/BaldingMonk commented. Redditor u/ANPO6 also tweaked the Seinfeld/Ke$ha incident to resemble the Season 6 episode "The Kiss Hello," except the musician wanted a hug instead of a kiss.

"Jerry: 'So, I'm standing there talking to this reporter, answering his questions, you know,'" u/pw_15 spun an original idea where Seinfeld and George Costanza (Jason Alexander) are discussing the situation. "'And this lady walks up like she knows me, and does this hugging motion!' George: 'Hugging motion? Who does that?!' Jerry, nodding: 'This lady apparently. And I'm thinking to myself, 'Oh, No. Do I know this person? Is this that girl I dated last week? I can't remember her name!'"

"And then George steps in, 'I'll have a hug,'" u/MatticusXII posted. But, naturally, Ke$ha refuses to embrace Jerry's best friend! Another Redditor suggested what Seinfeld would have actually done if he'd met Ke$ha in the exact same situation but on the TV show. "He would have awkwardly hugged her, then shook his head no while mouthing, 'Who is this?' in [the] middle of [the] hug." Talk about a show about nothing.
