Where Is Jeremy Allen White From Shameless Now?

Starting a role on what turns out to be a pretty long-running series can be stressful enough — but if that series is anything like "Shameless," it can be harrowing, to say the least. For a whopping ten years, Jeremy Allen White played Philip "Lip" Gallagher on the series, working alongside established actors like Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy to depict the story of a down-and-out family in Chicago. Nobody had an easy role on "Shameless," but White, who started the series shortly after high school, definitely had a rough ride.

As White told Variety in July of 2022, playing Lip, who struggled with addiction throughout the series, left him in pretty bad shape as an actor. "I love 'Shameless' so much," he told the outlet. "I love everybody that was a part of it, and the experience was incredible. But I'm not sure if shows are meant to go that long...There was a period where I stopped feeling like an actor and I started feeling like I was just here to do this show."

Luckily for White, there was another huge opportunity on the horizon. Here's what White has been up to since his time on "Shameless."

Jeremy Allen White is winning awards for The Bear

Since 2022, White has been playing Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto on Hulu's original series "The Bear," a chef who worked at upscale Michelin-starred restaurants before returning to his hometown of Chicago to take over his family's sandwich shop. In the aftermath of his brother's death, Carmy has to work with the difficult, headstrong Richie (Ebon Moss-Bacharach), his brother's best friend, and make sure the shop doesn't go under while trying to teach the staff what he's learned in the world of fine dining.

White struck gold with this role — "The Bear" was immediately hailed as one of the year's best shows, and White has received a ton of acclaim for his central role as Carmy. At the 2023 Golden Globes, White beat out heavyweights Bill Hader, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Donald Glover to win Best Performance in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and he also won in the same category at the Critic's Choice Awards and the Screen Actor's Guild Awards. With season 2 of "The Bear" on the horizon, White has work lined up for a while — and considering he's still young, there's no doubt he has a bright future beyond this series.
