Vin Diesel Eyes Robert Downey Jr. For The Fast And Furious Family

The list of A-list actors who are not in some capacity involved in the ever-expanding "Fast and Furious" cinematic mythos and its complicated timeline is growing shorter all the time. But Vin Diesel, one of the series's chief architects, still has ambitions to bring more big names on board. And those big names don't get much bigger than Robert Downey Jr., whom Diesel is hoping to have join the cast of a future "FF" film. He even has a character and storyline for the actor all worked out.

Whether RDJ would be interested in returning to the world of blockbuster action-adventure cinema is another matter, but the prospect does give fans of both the "Fast and Furious" franchise and Downey Jr. something to dream about for the future beyond the latest installment of the series, "Fast X," which is hitting theaters in May of 2023. And Diesel isn't the only member of the "FF" family to have casting ambitions for future installments of the series.

He wants to cast RDJ in a villainous role that's 'the antithesis of Dom'

In a chat with Variety to promote the upcoming "Fast X" (or, more accurately, the trailer for "Fast X"), an enthusiastic Vin Diesel was asked about his "dream casting" for future "Fast and Furious" installments. After stating the name of superstar and Diesel's fellow Avenger Robert Downey Jr., it's clear from his answer that he's spent a fair amount of time thinking about this subject already:

"Without telling you too much about what happens in the future, there's a character who is the antithesis of Dom who is promoting AI and driverless cars and a philosophy that with that goes your freedom," revealed Diesel. "There is somebody that believes that's the future, and that's at direct odds with the Toretto mentality."

It's this character who Diesel seems to envision for Downey in the next "Fast and Furious" installment. As for whether he's actually gotten the chance to pitch the part to Downey Jr., Diesel isn't telling.

Diesel's fellow "Fast and Furious" family member Michelle Rodriguez was also asked a similar question, and what she lacks in detail about the character she makes up for in shameless begging: "Who's the guy from these amazing 'Jason Bourne' movies? Matt Damon!" she said. "I f**king want Matt Damon. Matt Damon, would you be in a 'Fast and Furious' movie? C'mon, we got four Oscar winners, man. And you're an Oscar winner!"

Fans will have to wait and see if either Rodriguez or Diesel are able to see their "FF" casting dreams come true.
