The Staggering Amount Of Characters South Park's April Stewart Plays

"South Park" has become one of the most preeminent comedy shows on television over the course of its 25 seasons on the air. Though the Comedy Central series was anything but a surefire hit when it premiered its first episode back in 1997, over two decades later, its characters are among the most popular pop culture icons around, and its creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have signed their way to a major payday as a result (via Bloomberg).

Making them even more indispensable, Parker and Stone voice many of the most prominent characters in "South Park," including Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, Randy Marsh, Butters Stotch, and Mr. Garrison. However, fans of the animated series might not realize that there's another MVP in the voice-acting cast who also takes on the mantles of many different residents in the small Colorado town: April Stewart. Furthermore, even if her name sounds familiar to fans, they would probably be surprised to know just how many characters she voices in "South Park.

Stewart voices almost all of the prominent female characters

As noted by IMDb, April Stewart is the voice behind nearly every prominent recurring female character in "South Park." Though her biggest character is likely Stan Marsh's on-again-off-again girlfriend and political firebrand Wendy Testaburger, Stewart also voices Liane Cartman, Barbara Broflovski, Sharon Marsh, Shelly Marsh, Principal Victoria, and even the Mayor of the small town.

Astoundingly, Stewart has over 50 different characters credited to her name over the course of her time with "South Park. Though many of these are, of course, one-off characters that are rarely seen or heard from again, this fact alone puts her right up there as one of the most important and meaningful voices behind the iconic series.

Though in a video interview at Comic-Con, it's clear that Stewart's real-life voice doesn't sound like any of her characters, this honestly just makes her vocal talents all the more impressive. When asked what her favorite characters to voice are, Stewart mentioned Shelly Marsh and Wendy Testaburger. All the same, the performer is still with "South Park" after all these years, meaning fans can look forward to hearing her voice in the upcoming 26th season of the long-running series.
