Avengers: Infinity War Character Art Reveals New Looks For Earth's Mightiest Heroes
The Avengers spent the offseason clothes shopping, and their summer outfits are looking capital-F Fierce.
New promotional art has been released for the upcoming be-all, end-all Marvel Studios movie Avengers: Infinity War, the 19th movie in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Comic Book Movie has the roundup of new images, which started appearing on the internet earlier this week. The new glimpses take the form of character posters, with art for six of the movie's major heroes and villains accompanied by loglines summarizing their stories up to this point.
The image for Captain America is particularly interesting for a few reasons. For one, it explicitly calls the character "Captain America", something which has actually been up in the air since Steve Rogers left behind his shield and went into hiding following the events of Captain America: Civil War.
Cap's abandonment of his iconic weapon, along with the sexy renegade beard he unveiled to the world in Infinity War's first trailer, have led many to believe that hero will be adopting the name of Nomad in the movie, as he did during a comic book storyline that saw him through a similar self-imposed exile. If this new art is to be taken as gospel, it looks like that won't be the case. Steve's beard may say Nomad, but his driver's license still reads Cap.
However, Cap does have one very exciting new addition to his arsenal — two Wakandan vibranium gauntlets, serving as a new pair of shields for the expat super-soldier. In technical parlance, they look sick, with this boots-on-the-ground look being worlds apart from the first, bright costume Cap donned in Captain America: The First Avenger. As the old saying goes, war doth changeth a man, and also doth maketh his costume super neato.
Next up, Peter Parker shows off his new costume while being billed under a new name: Iron Spider, the first time the webslinger has ever gone by that name in a live-action movie.
In the comics, Peter wore the Tony Stark-designed, technologically-advanced costume for a stretch before eventually returning to his classic outfit, so if Peter does go by the name "Iron Spider" in the movie, it might just be a one-and-done thing. While you don't get to see it in these images, another leaked piece of art that's been circulating online appears to confirm that the costume will indeed actually feature the comic book suit's three mechanical arms.
Beyond those two tantalizing reveals, the images also showcase a new hairdo, outfit, and pole staff weapon for Black Widow, as well as a regrown eye for Thor, God of Thunder. Thanos' image, of course, includes the Mad Titan in possession of all of the Infinity Stones within his gauntlet, which is not particularly good for the well-being of the rest of the universe.
Disney recently announced it was moving the release date of the third Avengers movie up one week; Avengers: Infinity War will now be released worldwide on April 27.
