Riverdale's Hayley Law Cast In Spontaneous

Hayley Law, whom television fans know as Valerie on the hit CW drama series Riverdale, has found her next role. Deadline reports that Law is set to co-star in Spontaneous, the silver-screen adaptation of Aaron Starmer's popular novel of the same name.  

Written and directed by Brian Duffield, Spontaneous follows high school senior Mara Carlyle (played by 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford), whose life is flipped upside-down when her peers start exploding — literally. Students are bursting like balloons, seemingly for no reason, all around her, and Mara is helpless to crack the mystery behind it all. The town spirals into chaos and desperation, and Mara and her friends distance themselves from the increasingly dangerous outside world, reflecting on what they'll miss most if their lives are suddenly over. 

Law will portray Tess, Mara's best friend and "partner in sarcasm." She joins All the Money in the World actor Charlie Plummer in the film.

Here's the full synopsis for Starmer's Spontaneous book: "Mara Carlyle's senior year is going as normally as could be expected, until — wa-bam! — fellow senior Katelyn Ogden explodes during third period pre-calc. Katelyn is the first, but she won't be the last teenager to blow up without warning or explanation. As the seniors continue to pop like balloons and the national eye turns to Mara's suburban New Jersey hometown, the FBI rolls in and the search for a reason is on. Whip-smart and blunt, Mara narrates the end of their world as she knows it while trying to make it to graduation in one piece. It's an explosive year punctuated by romance, quarantine, lifelong friendship, hallucinogenic mushrooms, bloggers, ice cream trucks, "Snooze Button™," Bon Jovi, and the filthiest language you've ever heard from the President of the United States."

Outside of Riverdale, which is currently in its second season, Law will appear in Altered Carbon, the Netflix-exclusive series from creator Laeta Kalogridis. Law recently wrapped filming on the indie film The New Romantic, in which she acts alongside fellow Riverdale starlet Camila Mendes as well as Jessica Barden and Avan Jogia.

Spontaneous doesn't yet have a release date.
