The Stranger Is Sauron's Greatest Threat In The Rings Of Power According To Charlie Vickers

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has officially wrapped up its first season on Amazon Prime, and while a second season of the large-scale series is already in the works, many fans are likely still digesting the huge twist that came at the tail end of Season 1, Episode 8 ("Alloyed").

Not only were the first of the titular Rings of Power actually created in the "Lord of the Rings" prequel, but Sauron was revealed to be hiding in plain sight all along. While Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) has served as an ally and friend to Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) for much of this first run, he revealed his true colors as the dark lord Sauron as the season came to a close.

With this revelation confirming once and for all that The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is not Sauron, fans must return to speculating about the identity of the character for Season 2. Meanwhile, Vickers, who plays Halbrand/Sauron in "The Rings of Power," offered a tantalizing tease for the mysterious wanderer.

Vickers thinks The Stranger is the biggest threat to Sauron

Charlie Vickers sat down with Variety to talk about that big "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" twist, and he had a sobering conclusion for the fate of Sauron in Season 2 and who might be the biggest threat to the dark lord's rise to power. "The Stranger, probably, because the Stranger is also Maiar. Sauron is probably the strongest of the Maiar, in the same way that Morgoth is the strongest of the Valar," Vickers explained.

"Meeting someone with control over magic would be a real threat. Elves together and in force are threatening, but they're not on the same level as someone that is literally a demigod," Vickers went on. While we've already seen a display of the incredible power that The Stranger wields as he eliminated three of Sauron's most powerful servants in one fell swoop, as the character is just finding his footing, there's no telling how powerful he might become.

While speculation over the identity of The Stranger continues to run rampant in the fandom behind "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," the character's undeniable power will no doubt make him a huge obstacle for Sauron to overcome, particularly now that he has Nori (Markella Kavanagh) at his side to keep him grounded.
