Amazon Renews The Tick For Season 2

Amazon is ready to see more of The Tick. According to Deadline, the offbeat superhero series has already been renewed for a second season, just a few weeks before the back half of its debut season hits the streamer.

Based on the comic of the same name, The Tick follows a powerless underdog accountant, played by Griffin Newman, who decides he must do something when he realizes his city is actually owned by a thought to be dead former supervillain (Jackie Earle Haley). He calls on the help of Peter Serafinowicz's strange blue superhero to fight for justice. Yara Martinez, Valorie Curry, Scott Speiser, Michael Cerveris, John Pirkis, Alan Tudyk, and Brendan Hines also star.

The Tick has been adapted into a TV series twice before, with an animated series running for three seasons beginning in 1994 and a live-action series, starring Patrick Warburton, running for one season on Fox in 2001. Like the previous two series, this one also has the character's comics creator, Ben Edlund, behind it. Amazon's adaptation has been successful with critics and audiences alike, earning a 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

"I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller," said Edlund. "We got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis, I'm very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it."

Edlund is set to return for season two, along with Serafinowicz and Newman. Additional casting is yet to be announced. The final six episodes of The Tick's first season will premiere on February 23, while the second season is expected out at some point in 2019.
