The Three Major Star Wars Characters Who Called Mirial Their Home
The Star Wars Universe is a massive place with hundreds of named planets, species, and characters that continues to grow as Disney releases more and more content. It can be daunting to even begin exploring everything there is to learn about each main character — let alone the dozens of major characters that appear in the movies and TV series. But through it all, the universe is as detailed as it ever was and it shows this through series like "The Clone Wars." One such group of characters are three force-sensitive women from the planet Mirial — a desert planet that is cold and dry.
The planet is first mentioned in the novel "Cloak of Deception" — which was eventually removed from Star Wars canon after Disney purchased the IP and removed the post-"Return of the Jedi" content that was created for the expanded universe. It wasn't until 2015 that the planet of Mirial became canon again when the Ultimate Star Wars canon reference book was released prior to the debut of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
It was in the Ultimate Star Wars book that we learned of some pretty prominent Mirialan Jedi — and that they had a tradition of taking their own species as apprentices.
A Jedi Master and her Padawan took very different paths
When the Star Wars prequels were first released, we got to see Jedi by the dozens — but many of these characters were used as more of a backdrop and didn't have much character development. Among those Jedi was the Mirialan Luminara Unduli — first seen in "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" as a background character during a few scenes and then again making a small appearance in "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" — she eventually becomes a major character in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
In the animated series, Unduli takes on Padawan Barris Offee from her home world of Mirial; both characters prove to be important characters in the Star Wars Universe. Unduli is a powerful Jedi but ends up failing her Padawan similar to how Obi-Wan Kenobi fails Anakin Skywalker — Offee turns to the Dark Side and betrays her master and friends.
Offee eventually redeems herself — only to be killed in the Great Jedi Purge stemming from Order 66. Her master survives the purge but only to be captured, used as bait to lure other Jedi to their death, and then eventually executed herself.
Another Mirialan was seduced by the Dark Side
A third major character from Star Wars also claims Mirial as her home — the force-sensitive Mirialan Seventh Sister Inquisitor. The Seventh Sister makes her first appearance in the Star Wars Universe during the second season of "Star Wars Rebels." She is explicitly sent out by Darth Vader to find Anakin Skywalker's old Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, and her friends. The Inquisitor was said to be strong with the Dark Side of the force and was very dedicated to her mission to hunt down Ahsoka.
Seventh Sister Inquisitor makes several appearances throughout the "Star Wars Rebels" — before eventually being killed by Maul. The fate of all of the Mirialan major characters in Star Wars has been the same — tragic tales that end in death. But with the Seventh Sister Inquisitor, we never really got much of a back story as to how and why she is lured to the Dark Side and eventually became an Inquisitor — while both Unduli and Offee have more fleshed-out backstories. Maybe in the future, we will see more of these green-skinned hominoids — and perhaps even get to visit their homeworld of Mirial.
