Will Smith Faces A Fantastic Threat In New Bright Trailer
When you absolutely have to get different cultures to put aside their petty differences, you can't go wrong with a good, old-fashioned end-of-the-world scenario.
Netflix has released a new trailer for Bright, its upcoming blockbuster-budget fantasy movie about cross-species buddy cops in a weird, wild world.
Directed by David Ayer of Training Day, End of Watch and Suicide Squad, Bright stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as mismatched cops in a modern fantasy world where humans, elves and orcs are all trying to get along and coexist. It was written by Max Landis, who previously wrote Chronicle, American Ultra, and Victor Frankenstein.
Despite millennia spent sharing the planet, not all is cozy in the modern era when it comes to fantasy race relations. This aspect of Bright's alternative world gets the spotlight when the trailer ends with Smith's LAPD officer absolutely murdering a beautiful fairy on his front lawn with a broom. Between this and the guy's prejudice against Orcish music, the guy clearly has issues—perhaps he'll learn to get beyond them when it's time to save the world.
In addition to Smith and Edgerton, the movie stars Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Margaret Cho, and Ike Barinholtz. For more footage, check out the previous trailers for the movie here, and right here.
Bright premieres on Netflix on December 22.
