Barbara Hershey Cast In The X-Files Season 11

Mulder and Scully, meet Price.

Deadline reports that Oscar-nominated actress Barbara Hersey has been cast in the eleventh season of The X-Files. Hershey, known for her role as Erica Sayers/The Queen in 2010's Black Swan and as Cora Mills on the fantasy series Once Upon a Time, is set up for a recurring role on the newest season of the Fox sci-fi drama.

Hershey will play Erika Price, a character described as the "powerful" representative for a mysterious organization. She joins series icons David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, and Mitch Pileggi as Skinner, an FBI assistant director who has played a key part in the show's plot since it first debuted back in 1993.

The eleventh installment overall and the second as an exclusive event series following the past revival, the upcoming season of X-Files will reportedly focus on stand-alone stories in a more episodic, monster-of-the-week format. Fox entertainment chairman David Madden recently explained the new approach, stating that the team is enjoying the freshness of it all.

"We're really proud of last season," Madden began, addressing the criticism heaved at the 2016 revival's focus on a complex overarching narrative. "We had the responsibility to explain to the audience what had happened in the intervening seven or eight years. We're free from that responsibility this time and can just plunge in and tell the stories. We're having a lot of fun doing it. Eight of the episodes will be stand-alone stories, so they will be classic 'Mulder and Scully plunging into new adventures.'"

Madden continued, explaining that the audience will be hooked on the new season straight from the get-go. At the start, viewers are "launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William, Mulder and Scully's kid." The search for William is anticipated to be a "significant thread" throughout the upcoming episodes, and Madden even teased appearances from figures in the series' older mythology, including the Cigarette Man and the Lone Gunmen.

How Hershey's Erika Price fits into all the sci-fi goodness isn't yet known, but we have a feeling it'll be captivating regardless of circumstance.
