It’s fair to wonder if “Zootopia 2” will have an exclusive streaming release as Disney+ has experimented with during the pandemic, or if the first movie’s success will grant a theater release. “Zootopia+,” the upcoming anthology series, set to be released this year, could also serve as a follow-up instead of a traditional sequel.
While there have been no formal casting announcements, Mark Smith who voiced Officer McHorn, teased in a 2017 interview that he would be reprising his role in a sequel. Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy), Jason Bateman (Nick), and Byron Howard (Officer Clawhauser) have also expressed their interest in returning.
As “Zootopia” didn’t end with a cliffhanger, the sequel could have Judy and Nick continuing to do good in their community, or going beyond their home to meet new animals and explore new ways of policing. The stories of “Zootopia+” could also impact the possible sequel’s plot direction.
