Even after her Emmy nomination for her role in HBO’s “The White Lotus,” Alexandra Daddario’s best performance yet might be in the erotic thriller drama “Lost Girls & Love Hotels.”
Adapted from Catherine Hanrahan’s novel of the same name, Daddario plays Margaret, an American living in Tokyo.
During the day, she works at an academy training flight attendants, but at night, Margaret staves off loneliness with alcohol and encounters with men at love hotels.
She begins an affair with Takehiro Hira’s character Kazu, an enforcer for the Yakuza. The film will likely appeal to fans of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” but it is a moodier film.
Daddario received critical praise, with Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian saying, "Daddario's performance as the vulnerable, secretive yet emotionally open Margaret is smart."
The movie was released in 2020 and went straight to VOD, so with its inclusion on Hulu, “Lost Girls & Love Hotels” will likely have a spike in viewership.
