Why One Star Trek Scene Made Sir Patrick Stewart Cry
By TIM LAMMERS
In the 2016 book, "The Fifty-Year Mission: The Next 25 Years," by Edward Gross and Mark Altmann, Patrick Stewart revealed the "Star Trek" scene that brought him to tears.
The moment came near the end of filming "Star Trek: Nemesis," in a scene featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander-turned-Captain William T. Riker.
"I'm saying goodbye to Riker and I found myself completely caught up in the moment. I broke down," Stewart said in the book. "[...] my emotions overwhelmed me [...]."
The lack of his normally sure-handed demeanor caused some confusion as he began crying when Picard was saying goodbye to Jonathan Frakes' character in their final scene together.
For Stewart, in that moment, "everything coalesced — the feelings that I had for these people over the years. Saying goodbye was absolutely terrifying and agonizing for me."
