As a former MMA fighter, Gina Carano got her breakout role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire,” where she played a covert special agent who was betrayed by her own agency. Despite it being her first major performance, Carano was widely praised for holding her own against industry heavyweights like Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, and Michael Fassbender.
Carano also starred as Riley, the partner of Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs in “Fast & Furious 6.” While she appeared to be a force for good, she turned out to be an associate of the villain Shaw and was eventually defeated by Michelle Rodriguez’ Letty.
Carano went on to join 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men” universe when she played Angel Dust, one of the super-powered lead villains in the 2016 film “Deadpool.” Carano knew the film’s director, Tim Miller, who called her shortly after the film went into production and asked if she wanted the role.
