Sheryl Lee Ralph joined the cast of "It's A Living" as Ginger St. James, the last main character to enter the sitcom which follows a group of waitresses struggling to make ends meet in Los Angeles. She first appeared in the fourth season in 1986 to replace Cassie Cranston.

In 1993's "Sister Act 2," Sheryl Lee Ralph played Florence Watson, a traumatized and strict mother to Rita Louise Watson, one of Deloris Van Cartier's (Whoppi Goldberg) students. Florence isn't a bad mother, but rather a strict one, whose rules upon her daughter are well meant.

In 2013, Ralph landed a role on another family sitcom in Nickelodeon's "Instant Mom," and portrayed Maggie Turner, the main character’s intrusive mother. Maggie enjoys inserting herself into her daughter's life, all under the guise of transforming her daughter into a better mother for her new children.

Also in 2013, through Showtime, CBS released "Ray Donovan," an American crime drama that ran for seven seasons and a movie. In the series, Sheryl Lee Ralph portrays Claudette Weisbrod, the absent mother of Ray's half-brother, Daryll Donovan.
