Decades before "The Conners" premiered its fifth season, Sara Gilbert's character, Darlene Conner, was a tomboy teen on "Roseanne." It’s not a surprise she was a child star, as she comes from an acting family: Her mom was a talent agent, and her older siblings, Melissa and Jonathan Gilbert, starred in the 1970s NBC drama "Little House on the Prairie.”
Gilbert was an actress long before “Roseanne,” with her first acting job in a Kool-Aid commercial at age five and her first acting credit from the 1984 TV movie “Calamity Jane,” when she was just nine years old. In the 30 years between "Roseanne" seasons, Gilbert had a slew of TV credits on shows like “The Big Bang Theory,” “ER,” and “Atypical.”
In addition to acting on sitcoms and other TV shows, Gilbert also spearheaded the CBS daytime show "The Talk," which she created and co-hosted for nine seasons. She decided to step away from the daytime talk show in 2019 to return to her first love of acting and spend more time with her family.
