What's The
Difference
Between Captain
Marvel And
Ms. Marvel?
By EAMMON JACOBS
Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) isn't the only hero to wield the "Captain Marvel" name in the comics; in recent years, a young Inhuman known as Kamala Khan became a new version of Ms. Marvel. The character is getting her own series on Disney+ (played by Iman Vellani), and with two heroes using the same name, some clarification is needed about what makes them different.

Danvers was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and winds up getting her cosmic abilities when the Psyche-Magnetron explodes, crossing her DNA with Captain Marvel's Kree genetics. Kamala is an Inhuman, and her abilities are unlocked when Black Bolt unleashes Terrigen mist across the world.

Backstories

Carol’s military background lent to her Captain Marvel moniker and she has incredible abilities, such as the ability to fly and hurl energy blasts, super-strength, and durability. Comic book fan Kamala adopted Ms. Marvel's name as an homage to her favorite superhero and her powers include shape-shifting, allowing her to transform her body at will.

Identities and Abilities

When "The Marvels" arrives in November 2022, Carol and Kamala will team up with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), who also took up the Captain Marvel name in the comics, " The film will assemble the three heroes in the MCU who are related to the same name and see what makes them tick.
